Mara Youdelman is Managing Attorney in the Washington DC office of the National Health Law Program (NHeLP). Mara is co-author of Ensuring Linguistic Access in Health Care Settings: Legal Rights and Responsibilities, Language Services Resource Guide for Pharmacists, and, from The Commonwealth Fund, three reports on promising practices for providing language services in health care settings, small health care provider settings, and state and local benefit offices. Mara is recognized as a national expert on language access and has participated on expert advisory panels for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; the National Committee for Quality Assurance; the American Medical Association’s Ethical Force Program; the National Quality Forum; and The Joint Commission. Prior to joining NHeLP, Mara completed a teaching fellowship at Georgetown University Law Center's Federal Legislation Clinic and two years litigating for the Administration for Children's Services in New York City. Mara earned her LL.M. in Advocacy from Georgetown University Law Center in 2000, her J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1996, and her B.A. from Tufts University in 1991. Mara also serves as a Commissioner on the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
