WASHINGTON---Robert N. Weiner, a partner with Arnold & Porter LLP, has joined the National Health Law Program's (NHeLP) board of directors. NHeLP protects and advances the health care rights of low-income and underserved individuals.
Weiner served as associate deputy attorney general at the Department of Justice from 2010 to 2012 where he oversaw the defense of the Affordable Care Act from the onset of litigation through the recent Supreme Court oral arguments. Weiner returned to Arnold & Porter earlier this year and practices in the firm's Business Litigation group.
"We are delighted to have Rob on our board," said Emily Spitzer, NHeLP executive director. "He brings a significant and in-depth understanding of health law and policy and has been committed to public service throughout his career."
"Rob's expertise on the Affordable Care Act and the current health policy landscape will be a great asset to NHeLP's diverse and accomplished board," said Marc Fleischaker, NHeLP board chair. "I look forward to working with Rob and the entire board in the coming years."
Weiner has decades of litigation experience in both civil and criminal cases and, from 1997 to 1998, served as senior counsel in the White House Counsel's Office where he worked on national policy priorities. Weiner clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and received his J.D. from Yale Law School.
Weiner is a former member of the board of governors of the American Bar Association and served as president of the District of Columbia Bar from 1995 to 1996. From 2005 to 2008, he was president of the District of Columbia Bar Foundation. Weiner has been recognized for his pro bono work by a number of prestigious legal organizations including the Whitman Walker AIDS Clinic, the National Legal Aid and Defender Association and The Legal Aid Society.
The oldest non-profit of its kind, NHeLP advocates, educates and litigates at the federal and state levels.
