Webinar: Confidentiality Protections – Implications on Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Care

Executive Summary

Data Project partners report confidentiality as a significant barrier to access for clients and patients seeking sexual and reproductive health care. Specifically, concerns around the confidentiality of medical care can deter individuals from using Medicaid or health insurance coverage to pay for their health care when they need it. Young women in particular rate confidentiality as important in accessing services more than any other age group. This webinar, which NHeLP, joined by Julie Lewis of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, addresses federal law requirements, areas of concern (including billing, claims processing, and communications from insurance companies), and state-based efforts to strengthen protections.
